Position Description Summary

To lead a team of HSE professionals to enhance, promote and continuously improve a positive health, safety, wellness and environmentally compliant culture and program; providing proactive, pragmatic, strategic and risk adverse health, safety, wellness and environmental leadership, communication, initiatives, training, monitoring and expert support throughout the organization

To provide guidance and expertise to the operations teams to ensure Valiant TMS supplied equipment and machines (including tooling, custom machines, automated assembly systems, production lines and related equipment) are engineered, manufactured, integrated and installed in a manner that meets or exceeds all applicable legislative and customer requirements and specifications


Core Responsibilities

Provide strategic direction and leadership to the HSE team, including developing and implementing short term and long term HSE action plans, projects, initiatives, goals and objectives that maintain the balance between company objectives, customer requirements, and operations

Strengthen and sustain productive and collaborative working relationships with all levels of the company, in an effort to promote proactive use of the HSE organization

Monitor, interpret and analyze customer HSE specifications and requirements for Valiant TMS supplied equipment.  As the internal subject matter expert in this area, be engaged in projects from the initial stages of quotation through the project life cycle, providing guidance and support to internal project management, engineering, manufacturing, integration and instillation teams

Lead the preparation of responses to HSE related customer inquiries or concerns regarding Valiant TMS supplied equipment or Valiant TMS team member work practices on-site at customer locations.  Travel to customer sites as required to investigate concerns and/or meet with customers to resolve issues

Drive awareness and accountability for HSE performance through all levels of the organization and provide support across responsible functional teams.  Analyze monthly HSE metrics to effectively communicate company performance against established metrics, and lead the implementation of applicable corrective measures and improvement plans when required

Monitor, interpret and analyze the business impact of evolving HSE laws and regulations, standards and regulatory initiatives that impact the company in the geographic areas in which it does business

Professionally represent the company and otherwise interface with and protect the company’s interests regarding external government and associated regulatory agencies, such as the Ministry of Labour (MOL), the WSIB, Ministry of Environment, and OSHA, with respect to health, safety and wellness issues and inspections, audits or correspondence

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in safety management or a related field; Master’s degree is preferred

A current Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) (U.S.) designation

Minimum of 5 years of HSE experience with increasing leadership responsibilities preferred

Experience in an automotive or manufacturing environment required, preferably in an organization with multiple facilities and business units

Working knowledge of both Canadian and US HSE laws and regulations.  Knowledge of automotive OEM’s HSE specifications and requirements preferred

Strong leadership skills, including but not limited to, sound judgement, aptitude for directing and motivating others, problem solving skills, positive attitude, decision making and results orientation

Ability to build productive and cooperative teams; ability to drive teams to success

Ability to work effectively in a team, across functions and business units

Ability to regularly travel between Windsor, Ontario, Canada and Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA.  Occasional regional or global travel may be required, to customer locations or other Valiant facilities
