Job Description

Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and GD&T.

Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, or grinders;

Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers. Setup, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools in order to perform precision machining operations; Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and workpieces onto machines to safely remove material (machine);

Design and manufacture basic fixtures for holding workpieces while machining.

Setup, clamp, secure workpieces subject to bending and distorting during the clamping and metal removal process.

Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process. Select the appropriate tools and machines to be used manufacturing of parts;

Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts;

Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs;

Perform scheduled and preventative maintenance of the machine tool including changing filters, batteries, lubricants, coolant, oils / fluids;

Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter; Supports the T&G team including design, project management, planning, fabrication, assembly and inspection throughout an assigned project. Remove and replace worn cutting tools, inserts, grinding wheels, saw blades, honing stones and all perishable cutting tools to keep the machine operating safely and efficiently;

De-burr and finish the detail after machining by filing, grinding or scraping;

Has the authority and obligation to stop production in case unsafe working conditions are observed;

Has the obligation to notify the Supervisor for Safety related matters requiring immediate attention;

To assist in, or perform other duties as required or directed by Leadership.

 

Job Requirements

•   A High School Diploma or equivalent;

•   A completed Apprentice Program and Certification in the trade by the Province of Ontario;

•   A minimum of (3) years of related work experience;

•   An ability to read and understand blueprints and perform shop mathematics as applicable to machining; and

• An ability to work well with others as part of a team.
