Job Description

To assist in Valco’s fabrication activities, including CWB certification program. Training welders, developing training criteria and maintaining all documentation for CWB compliance.

Develop and manage weld inspection program. To include training of personnel to properly inspect welds.

Ensure that the company's welding procedures covering all joints, processes and positions used in fabrication/erection are current and approved by the CWB, and that weld quality and workmanship are up to the levels specified by the design or product standard; and

To assess the effectiveness of all process and recommend improvement methods and strategies compatible to and in support of Company targets and goals.

Weld Certification Oversight, Compliance, Training and Development
To monitor all aspects of welding, inclusive of the following:
To perform visible and audible range inspections or to verify that the work inspected and records maintained conform to the requirements of the applicable standards;
To develop, review and interpret inspection and joining procedures and requirements, inclusive of WPSs and PQRs;
To conduct welding audits ensuring that all records are maintained so as to conform to the requirements of the applicable standard and other contract, customer or regulatory requirements;
To verify and to approve the qualifications of welders and fabricators to various codes and specifications, as applicable;
To ensure that welded assemblies conform to the relevant workmanship and acceptance criteria.
To monitor the calibration requirements, and the preventative maintenance, for all welding machines;
To assist in the development and the implementation of weld defect training;
To assist in the development of weld processes and equipment;
To, after the completion of the required training, conduct magnaflux and ultrasonic testing of welds;
To perform and maintain welding Layered Process Audits (LPAs);
To develop best practices and weld parameters with respect to robotic welding applications within a production environment;
To interface with robotic welding operators so as to optimize and leverage the best and most efficient use of available technology;
To monitor and to assess welding output produced through the robotic process to determine the integrity, quality and other characteristics of the weld; and

Job Requirements

A Completed Level 1 Weld Inspector Certification from the CWB;
A minimum of five (5) years of related work experience;
A knowledge of, and familiarity with, welding symbols and superior blue print reading skills;
A demonstrated competency of weld defects identification; and
An ability to work well with others as part of a team.
