Position Summary

In this role you will utilize your skills in obtaining, reviewing and evaluating customs regulations while preparing customs documents using internal processes to reduce the risk of non-compliance exposure and gain efficiency for Valiant TMS' export shipments

Job Responsibilities

Develop export documentation (Customs invoices, NAFTA’s, B13’s etc) for shipments leaving Canada;

Facilitate in-bound and out-bound product movement through customs at all border crossings through supporting and controlling all necessary documentation and processes particular to or accompanying international import or export shipments;

Ensure a through and complete understand of all rules and regulations pertaining to Canadian and American customs;

Ensure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations of the Canada Border Services Agency and United States Customs and Border Protection at all times;

Obtain NAFTA certificates on a timely basis for all imports and exports;

Review and audit import and export documents prior to customs submittal;

Classify imports and exports according to the government Harmonized Tariff;

Provide information and/or assistance to our Canadian and American customs brokers as requested in order to expedite shipments across the border;

Provide information, assistance or work with the Canadian and the American customs agents or brokers, vendors, carriers, and internal Valiant TMS personnel to facilitate the timely and efficient processing and clearance of inbound and out bound product;

Prepare customs and other government documents for customs clearance as required;

Report deviations and issues;

Maintain accurate records for process audit verification

Job Requirements

Certified Customs Specialist designation required. University Degree a plus

Minimum 5 years relevant experience working in the Customs Broker environment preferred

Working knowledge of US Customs regulations and HS#’s

Ability to prepare Customs Export documents while ensuring that shipments meet all applicable laws for the export of goods to the USA, Canada and Internationally

Familiar with terms or in process of obtaining CIFFA certification an asset

Experience in preparing Customs invoices, NAFTA’s, B13 and other export documents in a timely manner

Ability to be a liaison with Customs brokers, internal logistics department, government agencies, suppliers and internal staff

Ability to ensure efficiency in the companies export documents while utilizing variable resources (brokers import system, Customs rulings, supplier’s files, SAP etc.)

Understanding of logistics, shipping/receiving and methods of clearances for export & imports into the USA (I.T., T & E’s, PAPS/PARS, 3461/7501, ISF etc.)

Strong knowledge in HS# Classifications (Chapters most used-39,40,72,74,76,82,84,85,87,90,98,Annex)

Ability to prioritize and complete assignments using effective organization skills

Willingness to learn customs department processes and develop changes as needed

Available to work overtime and weekends as required
